at the crack of sunday we checked in to the hostel. and were awoken to obnoxious people coming back.
in the morning we got up to look around the city. we didnt have much time as half way through the day we were moving via bus to durham.
saw some architecture and bridges. walked along the river, which was nice. they were having a market in conjunction with a festival so there were a lot of people out and about. i had a delicious chocolate chip scone.
we went to the art museum and then walked around a bit more and had subway before our coach.
got into durham and walked up to find the castle, university, and cathedral. cathedral had specific tour times, so we went to check out the cathedral first. it has something that i can't recall making it a pilgrimage site for a lot of people. in any case, it was beautiful.
the castle was cool too. it is not durham university. i was (and still am) pretty much stuck on the thoughts that came about regarding the durham students whose student housing is the castle. and their dining hall that of the castle and the little churches as well. it was cool.
walked around the small town looking at options for dinner. wanted to go to some pubs but they didnt have food options. so instead we had an italian meal. hung out at a pub with some pimms and card games for an extended period of time because we had an awkward amount of time before our bus back to london.
