yesterday, being a friday with no class to attend, stephanie and i went into the city to the globe theatre. with tickets as groundlings, we saw As You Like It.
Being at the Globe was a great experience. Seeing a Shakespeare production at the Globe as a groundling was awesome. Sure you're standing for many hours, but that's how you would have seen it at that time (and if it was a concert, you'd be standing). The groundling tickets are also only 5 pounds as opposed to many more for the seats. And we got there early so that we could be in the front row and rest against the stage.
The woman next to us also told us how you can't always hear when sitting in the seats too. It's a totally different perspective to be at the actors' feet. They do a great job of moving around the stage and around the whole theatre. They even involve the audience.
As You Like It is such a great comedy too. I remember it from high school and this was a great performance. The jester was great and even played with the audience. They sort of have to deal with planes and helicopters flying overhead, but it was super cool. And they ended with a hilarious line dance of sorts which was not at all expected, but enjoyable.
I look forward to seeing more productions at the Globe. (and elsewhere).
