6dec: sunday

we left early. took the bus to clapham junction and got the overground to gatwick airport.
going through the security point, they took your picture which then came up again when we went to the departure gate. this seemed like an additional check (that didn't happen on the return) but also then we didn't need to take off shoes so that was an interesting difference.

i then hunted for a bagel (a breakfast one from mcdonalds was the only option) after we went through security.
we waited until the gate was announced and then went to sit in line to board the plane.

the airline employee calling priority and nonpriority boarding was a little bit crazy. her intense laugh i think concerned/ confused all of the passengers.

being my first ryanair flight, i got to hear the "racetrack" music for landing before/on time which seemed to appear out of nowhere.

we got a family buspass for the day and took the bus to the hotel. we were able to check in and leave our stuff and then take the bus into the city. we went to a fish and chips place so alison could get fish and chips, and i had a chicken sandwich. then walked through some stores and took the bus over to the guinness storeroom.

the guinness storeroom is a very touristy museum, rather than functioning brewery. although it was fun to walk through. and their top level 360 bar has a wonderful view. it was great. so we had our pints of guinness and looked at the view.

then we went to some grocery stores and the mall and met jennifer to go to her house for dinner. her parents made us a delicious meal and it was very, very nice.
